Fairbury Native Joins New York Jets Organization

By Theodore BallFairbury High School graduate Mallonee Biehl has been hired by the New York Jets as an Event and Gameday Operations Intern. The job includes the setting up and taking down of fan engagement activities, autograph signings with players, concerts and other events at MetLife Stadium.“My entire life has been about sports. I have played softball for 15 years. I have played basketball, soccer, dance, gymnastics, track and cheerleading. In high school I played softball, basketball, track, and cheerleading,” Biehl said. Even though the Fairbury native competed in seven different activities throughout her youth, she had no desire to continue to pursue any of them after high school. According to Biehl they weren’t as important as managing the game on the gridiron.“I’ve loved football since I was little. It is so intriguing to me, and you see something new every week. The whole scheme of football has always piqued my interest, I would always sit on my couch at home and watch NFL Redzone for seven hours straight! That is where I felt the most at peace was watching football,” she said. Biehl was in fact so passionate about football that during her sophomore year in college as a sports management major, the football coaches created a position for her. She served as the Director of Football Operations at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, according to Biehl.“I got offered this position because of the level of trust the coaches had in me,” Biehl said. “The DFO job was so interesting to me because I had all the power on the team, I knew the where, what, when, why, and how of how things were being set up. I put together travel arrangements that included hotel, restaurants, bus services, as well as setting up practice schedules, fall camp schedules, scouting, setting up recruiting visits. All of the inside stuff about football that no one thinks about. It was a great wonderful experience to be a part of. This job also allowed me to ease the mind of coaches and players. They used to have a coach do all this for them while also trying to coach that position group.”During her last semester in college, Mallonee Biehl worked as a recruitment intern at North Dakota State University (NDSU). Biehl was not particularly fond of this sector of sports management but learned from the experience. “Recruiting does not interest me as much as the operations side does. At NDSU I had a great opportunity and I loved it. The facilities were beautiful, and the people were amazing. With recruiting you are doing the same thing every day, with operations it’s something new.”According to Biehl, she continued to search for jobs after arriving at NDSU. She applied for over 80 football positions at all levels. She acquired interviews with Jackson State, Florida International University, the New England Patriots, the Las Vegas Raiders, and the New York Jets. “The Jets were the ones that showed the greatest interest. I did a zoom interview with my now supervisor. They loved me and a week later I got the confirmation email that I will be working for the Jets as an Event and Gameday Operations Intern,” Biehl said. “This however is a new side of football that I will be learning about and seeing how much it interests me. I leave for this position on Friday the 6th of July and will have my first day on the 15th to set up training camp. I hope to obtain more knowledge about the game and continue to network with other individuals to help me with my future endeavors.”
