FPS Superintendent Sean Molloy Resigns

By Gordon Hopkins Fairbury Public Schools Superintendent Sean Molloy will be leaving his position at the end of the school year. The matter was discussed at a meeting of the FPS School Board at a special meeting on Friday, May 3, 2024. FJN reached out to Molloy for a comment. Molloy said, “I have accepted the Assistant Superintendent position at Norris School District and will be leaving FPS after June 30, 2024. I am greatly appreciative of the support I have received from the Fairbury Public Schools (FPS) Board of Education (BOE), FPS staff, students and families over the last five years.” Angie Judd, School Board President, told FJN, “Fairbury Public Schools appreciates the difference Mr. Molloy has made in our district during his tenure, and wish him well with his future endeavors. The FPS Board of Education is working with a Nebraska Rural Community School Association (NRCSA) consultant to complete an interim superintendent search for the 2024-2025 school year. This fall a full superintendent search will be conducted.” Molloy became superintendent in January, 2023, replacing Stephen Grizzle, who moved on to an interim superintendent position for one year at South Central Unified District #5 (Sandy Creek and Lawrence-Nelson). Prior to that, Molloy was FPS High School Principal. Molloy has been in education since 2012. In 2022,the Nebraska State Association of Secondary School Principals (NSASSP) chose Molloy as the 2022 Outstanding New Principal of the Year, an award presented annually to a principal who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in their school, region and at the state level. This is not the only recent change in FPS. Kimberly Roberts, Director of Interventions at Tri County Public Schools, has been hired as Central Elementary School’s Principal for the 2024-25 school year. She replaces Jared Haag, who served as Central’s principal for the 2023-24 school year. Haag replaced the previous principal, Patty Smith.
