Primary Election Tuesday

The Nebraska statewide primary will be on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.ID Voter LawThis will be is the first election since the state's new voter ID law was passed.About 97 percent of registered voters in Nebraska already have a driver’s license or state ID, according to information from county election offices and the Nebraska DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles).Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen said, “Many Nebraskans are already prepared for voter ID. For example, if you have a driver’s license or state ID, you’re ready to go.”Jefferson County Commissioner Race While most local races are non-partisan, Jefferson County Commissioner District 2 is a partisan race. Currently, there are four candidates running for the office: incumbent Gale Pohlmann, Danielle Schwab, Doug Brown and Justin Bennett. All four candidates are Republicans. There are no Democrats or other parties with a candidate running. As a result, baring a successful write-in candidate, the decision of commissioner will effectively be made at the primary election. Reporting on ResultsBecause FJN goes to print on Tuesdays, it will be impossible for the newspaper to print results in next week's edition. Therefore, as in the past, FJN will put out a “special edition” online with the results when they are available. As is tradition, results will also be posted in the window of the FJN office.
