FPS Takes Precautions Against Tik Tok Threat

Administrators of Fairbury Public Schools have taken preemptive action to protect students from a new social media “challenge.”
Schools across the country are on alert after postings on TikTok, a social media app that often issues challenges to young people, allegedly called on students to bring weapons to school and commit acts of violence. Some videos posted on the app have labeled today, Friday, December 17, as “National Shoot Up Your School Day.”
The “challenge” does not name any specific school district.
FPS Superintendent Stephen Grizzle posted on another social media site, Facebook, “Tik Tok is, once again, proving to be a destructive presence for our youth.”
Grizzle also wrote, “While we have not been alerted of any threats in Fairbury. Please talk to your kids about being appropriate.”
In response, Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were present at Fairbury Junior-Senior High School this morning. High School Principal Sean Molloy sent an email to parents that said, “We have not received any information of threats directed at Fairbury Jr-Sr HS. However, out of an abundance of caution, I have requested police presence from approximately 7:45-8:30 AM. My hope is that their presence will put you at ease and also discourage any inappropriate behaviors.”
