Great Example

Nebraska is a pretty conservative state. Ohio could be considered a bit more liberal in its values compared to Nebraska. Nebraska has girls high school wrestling and Ohio does not at this time. Kimberly Root is a tireless advocate for high school girls wrestling in her homestate of Ohio. I have known Kim for many years through pageants and she is a true entrepreneur. Kimberly is a martial artist, actor, pageant queen, business magnet and an advocate for young women.Kimberly has been trying to make headway in Ohio to make female high school wrestling a sanctioned sport. After attending state wrestling this year in Omaha, I can tell everyone that girls wrestling is not only legitimate, but the female athletes at state are some of the best pure athletes out there and exemplify what sport is all about in the world. These young ladies were very skilled and mastered the fundamentals but the thing that was exemplified to me the most from the female athletes was the camaraderie and spirit of competition displayed.Yes, these young ladies had their game faces on and there were a few sneers at opponents. However, after every single match, there was a sincere handshake and appreciation for the competition. Watching Makena Schramm of Fairbury stand on the podium and congratulate each and every other competitor with a handshake and hug is the essence of sport. So, Ohio, get it together. You want an example of progress in female sports, Nebraska is that example.I can see the sport growing in Nebraska and Fairbury has an excellent program, from Matmen to the high school female team.
