A pickup truck was struck by a train Saturday evening, August 28, on 708 Road near the intersection at Highway 8, southwest of Fairbury. The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m.\nAccording to the Sheriff\u2019s Report, the truck was traveling northbound on 708 Road and approached the Union Pacific railroad crossing #813658G.\nA UP railway train with the lead locomotive #5647 pulling the train was traveling westbound on the westbound track that is the north track of their double track. The driver of the pickup truck drove onto the railway crossing and the lead train locomotive struck the truck in the middle area of the passenger side. The truck was pushed off of the track to the northwest.\nJefferson County Deputies and Ambulance District # 33 were dispatched to the scene, as were UP personnel. One individual was transported by ambulance. Sheriff Nick Georgi confirmed there were no fatalities. Only minor injuries were reported.
