Rematch: Jeffs Close Out Season Against Auburn, Facing Team They Faced Earlier This Year

The Fairbury Jeffs would host Auburn on Monday, April 22nd in a rematch from just over a month ago in the beginning of the season. In the previous game Auburn would go on to shutout Fairbury with a final score of 0-15. For this game, wind would be considered in for a factor as the gusts reached a max speed of 30 mph and any play that was routine now became a challenging one.The effort to get hits was a success, but errors on defense played a downfall in the loss in extra innings as Fairbury would lose with a final score 6-14. The Jeffs as a team had managed to win the hit battle 9-8 against Auburn, and were tied up 5-5 going into the bottom of the fifth.A scoreless inning in the sixth would be followed by one run coming by each team in the seventh getting the 6-6 ending that pushed the game to extra innings. In the eighth inning Auburn would put up eight runs and hold Fairbury to zero finishing the game. The error battle went to Auburn as the Fairbury Jeffs would have nine to the two for Auburn.On the positive side for Fairbury, the trio consisting of Jacob Nippert, Jamison Runge, and Miles Tatro came away with multiple hits from that game.Jakolbe Atkins, Aldo Ramos, and Dakota Zimmerman each contributed one hit as well. Nippert and Atkins were both able to come away with two RBI, and Tatro was able to have one RBI. Brodie Prellwitz and Jakolbe Atkins each came away with one stolen base.Taking the loss on the mound was Blayne Schelbitzki going six and one-third inning giving up six runs (one earned) on four hits, striking out eight and walking out four.Fairbury was looking to bounce back on the road as they were facing Seward on Tuesday, April 23rd.Fairbury would run into offensive troubles against Seward as they would lose that game reaching a final score 1-15.A team total of three hits for Fairbury with those coming by Miles Tatro, Jakolbe Atkins and Aldo Ramos. Atkins’ one hit was a double, had one stolen base and scored one run as he was the one RBI from Ramos.Jacob Nippert took the loss on the mound after allowing 11 runs (nine earned) on eight hits, walking three and having one strikeout.Fairbury will close out the season the road as they travel to Hastings on Saturday, April 27th.
