Rollover Accident Leads to Criminal Charges

Nathan D. Imes, age 40, of Fairbury, appeared in Jefferson County Court the morning of Wednesday, February 22, 2023. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge.Imes is charged with driving under a suspended license and driving without a valid registration. Both are class 1 misdemeanors punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.The defendant pleaded not guilty.On Thursday, January 12, 2023, at approximately 11:17 p.m., the Jefferson County 911 Center received a 911 call in reference to a rollover accident in the 800 block of 9th Street in Fairbury.According to the sheriff’s office, during the investigation is was determined that a 2008 Chevy Impala headed eastbound on 9th Street was driven by Imes, “It appeared that Imes became distracted while driving eastbound on 9th Street and the right front side of Imes’ vehicle struck the left rear of a parked 2012 Nissan Maxima that was parked on the south side of 9th Street.”After making contact, Imes’ vehicle flipped over onto the roof where it rested in the middle of 9th Street. Imes sustained minor injuries from the accident.The defendant indicated at a prior hearing that his license had been suspended three years ago due to lack of insurance.Imes was arraigned on February 8. That that time, the judge asked if the State would be seeking jail time. Jefferson County Attorney Joseph Casson said, “It's possible. Because this has been going on for several years.”Casson also noted the defendant has, “Several failures to comply.”Imes is represented by Public Defender Scott Gropp.Another hearing is scheduled for March 15.
