Shooting Suspect Appears in Court

A man accused of firing a gun during a dispute with a neighbor appeared in Jefferson County Court the morning of Wednesday, December 4, 2024, for setting of bond. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge.
Luis A. Reyes, age 67, of Fairbury, appeared via webcam in the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. His attorney, Nicholas Glasz, also appeared via webcam.
There are no charges yet on file but Reyes was arrested for terroristic threats, a class 3A felony punishable by up to three years in prison, plus nine to 18 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine, and use of a weapon to commit a felony, a class 1C felony punishable by five to 50 years in prison.
Reyes is represented by attorney Nicholas Glasz, who advised the court, “He doesn’t have very much money,” and also said his client was not a flight risk.
Jefferson County Attorney Joseph Casson said, “A low felony bond would be appropriate.”
Judge Bauer said, “Normally when a gun is involved in any offense I would set a very high bond.”
The judge agreed to set bond at $25,000 (10 percent) with a condition of no contact with the alleged victim. Because the alleged victim is the defendant’s neighbor, Reyes agreed to stay with family in Lincoln if he is able to make bond.
Arraignment is scheduled for December 8, 2024.
