Steele City Water Project Breaks Ground

By Gordon Hopkins
The Village of Steele City’s long awaited water mains project broke ground earlier this month. The project is anticipated to be completed in July or August of this year.
A water mains project was first begun more than five years ago but those mains have never been put into full time use due to leaks. This project is intended to replace those pipes. The previous project was made of three-inch pipe. The replacement project will be four-inch PVC pipe. The mains will consist of approximately five-and-a-half miles of pipe, or 28,000 feet.
The work is being done by Pollman, LLC, of Fairbury, which submitted a bid in 2025, for $1,070,540.63, which was based upon the total of the unit bid prices and was 11 percent below the estimate at that time.
