Two Arrested in Alleged Drive-By Shooting

Two men from Kansas are in custody after law enforcement was dispatched to the scene of a possible drive-by shooting.On Saturday, March 11, 2023 at approximately 8:58 p.m., the Gage County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a person or persons discharging a firearm from a vehicle near 11th and G Street in Wymore.Deputies responding to the area spoke with witnesses, reviewed surveillance video and were able to identify suspect vehicles. A deputy stopped two vehicles in Wymore and was assisted by another deputy and the off-duty Wymore police chief during the two vehicle traffic stop involving five suspects.After an on-scene investigation, 24-year-old Brentyn Swearingen and 20-year-old Zaide Swearingen, both from Kansas, were arrested on what the Sheriff's Office described as “a litany of charges” and booked into the Gage County Detention Center.Charges for Brentyn Swearingen are:Open ContainerPossession of Marijuana, less than one ouncePossession of a Controlled Substance (three counts)Carrying a concealed weaponUse of a weapon to commit a felony (two counts)Possession of a weapon during commission of felony (two counts)Terroristic Threats (two counts)Possession of legend drug (two counts)Concealed Handgun while using alcohol/drugsDischarge weapon from roadwayCharges for Zaide Swearingen are:Open ContainerPossession of Marijuana, less than one ouncePossession of a Controlled Substance (three counts)Carrying a concealed weaponUse of a weapon to commit a felony (two counts)Possession of a weapon during commission of a felonyTerroristic Threats (two counts)Possession of legend drug (two counts)Concealed Handgun while using alcohol/drugsDischarge weapon from roadwayIntroduce contraband to secure facilityMinor in Possession of alcoholInvestigators from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office are following up on the case. Law enforcement authorities in Kansas were contacted to obtain additional information on the suspects.
