Verneeda Bohlmeyer

A Life Story of a wife, mother and grandmother ended on July 5, 2022. Verneeda (Meeske) Bohlmeyer, 99, of Fairbury, NE was called to her eternal home by her Heavenly Father and is now at peace.
Verneeda’s life’s journey began on December 17, 1922. She was the fourth child of Alfred and Lydia (Hohensee) Meeske, and was born on a farm near Daykin, NE. She was received as a child of God in infant baptism on January 22, 1923 at St. John Lutheran Church in Daykin, NE. Her early years were spent on the farm and she attended District 86 rural school. Her baptismal vows were renewed when she was confirmed on October 4, 1936 by Rev. C.W. Knollman. Her Confirmation verse was Matthew 5:8. She attended high school in Daykin and Fairbury, graduating with the class of 1939 from Fairbury High School. She attended Normal School and at the age of 16 was qualified to teach in the rural schools of Nebraska. She taught in Districts #102 and #92 near Daykin.
Verneeda met her future husband on a blind date and on April 20, 1941, she married Carl J. Bohlmeyer, Jr. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Daykin, NE. This union was blessed with six children. They farmed near Fairbury and in 1943, moved to Pocahontas, IA to farm. They returned to Nebraska in 1950 where they farmed near Jansen. In 1961, they moved the family to Fairbury. Verneeda enjoyed gardening, quilting, flowers, food preservation and playing Bingo. She especially enjoyed entering foods and flowers at the Jefferson County Fair. Caring for her family was very important to her. Verneeda was a 4-H Leader, Girl Scout Leader, a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She was a talented seamstress and made all her daughter’s bridesmaid dresses. She was active in her church and quilting group. She was a past president of Fairbury Woman’s Club, a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, a charter member of Fairbury Eagles, an active member of Jefferson County Republican Women, a Committee Woman of Ward 1 in Fairbury and for many years she collected stocking caps, mittens, etc. for the children on the Native American Reservations.
Verneeda will be forever remembered by her two sons, Gene (Ima) Bohlmeyer of Lincoln, and Duane (Kelli) Bohlmeyer of Fairbury, four daughters, Twila Fairbanks of Baldwin City, KS, Carla( Howard) Nispel of Grand Island, Linda (Randy) Smith of Fairbury, and Karen (Steven) Evers of Omaha, thirteen grand children, Tamara, Daniel, Todd, Kristi, Angie, Lisa, Brad, Chantell, Traci, Carson, Stephanee, Stacee and Spencer. Other survivors include 21 great grandchildren one great-great grandchild, her sister, Maxine Julius of Ames, IA., three step-great grandchildren and three step great-great grandchildren Preceding her in death were her husband of 43 years, Carl on December 24, 1984, her parents, brother Lawrence Meeske, sisters Verda Dauphin, Velma Pimper and Eleanor Peters, granddaughter Michelle Bohlmeyer, and son-in-law David Fairbanks.
Services will be Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at 11:00 at Faith Lutheran Church in Fairbury. Memorials suggested to Faith Lutheran Church Radio Broadcasts. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. www.gerdesmeyerfh.com
