1942Wood bins were being shipped into the county for the storage of grain. A total of 84 bins, each with a capacity of 2,700 bushels of grain, was shipped in.Loan rates on corn was 79 cents while market price was 66 cents.The gas stations in Fairbury reported record business the day before gas rationing was to begin.A crew arrived in Fairbury to begin dismantling the west end of the roundhouse located at the depot. This part of the roundhouse had short stalls and could not accommodate the larger engines. That made the roundhouse smaller but more efficient. The Rock Island also wrecked buildings and took up tracks all along its line in order to get material to use in the war effort.The memorial to Frank L. Rain was dedicated. It was furnished by the Elks Grand Lodge and placed in McNish Park near the Boy Scout Cabin.
