Arrest Warrant Issued for Matthew Field

A bench warrant was issued for the arrest of Matthew J. Field, 24, of Hebron, after failing to appear in Jefferson County District Court as scheduled on Thursday, April 28, 2022. Julie Smith was the presiding judge. A new bond was issued for $50,000 (10 percent). Judge Smith previously issued a warrant for Field’s arrest on March 3 of this year.In 2019, the defendant was originally charged with terroristic threats, a class 3A felony that carries a possible punishment of three years in prison, 12 to 18 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine; criminal trespass, 2nd degree, and defying an order to leave, a class 2 misdemeanor punishable by six months incarceration and a $1,000 fine; and possession of a controlled substance, a class 4 felony, punishable by two years’ incarceration, nine to 12 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine.According to the Warrantless Arrest Affidavit, on Oct. 27 of this year, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a residence in Fairbury. The Deputy who filled out the Affidavit wrote, “Dispatch stated that the reporting party advised a man in a black hoodie was at her basement door. When she asked him to leave, he pulled a gun out of his pocket.”Upon arrival, Deputies spotted a silver SUV. They were informed by the reporting party that the suspect was inside.The Deputy wrote, “I instructed the individual to exit the vehicle with his hand (sic) in the air. I walked him backwards to the sound of my voice and I instructed him to lay face down with hands out to the sides. I placed him in handcuffs and then asked him for his information. He identified himself as Matthew J. Field, from Hebron. I asked him if he had the gun on his person and he stated that he had thrown it up onto the porch (of the residence). I placed Field in the back of my patrol vehicle, checked the area, and did not find the pistol. ”A Deputy continued to search for the weapon and eventually located one beneath an abandoned vehicle nearby. The Deputy identified it as a BB gun.Field was arrested and booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 4:47 p.m. According to a second Warrantless Arrest Affidavit, filled out by a different Deputy, “At approximately 8:00 pm (sic), Correction Officers request Field be transported to JCHL (Jefferson County Health & Life) to be medically cleared as he was showing signs of withdrawal.”The defendant was taken to the hospital and admitted. At approximately 8:57 p.m., nursing staff advised the Deputy that the defendant had what appeared to be a pill bottle down the front of Field's pants.The Deputy wrote, “I entered the ER room and removed an orange pill bottle with white lid from the front of Field's pants.”The Deputy also noted that Field had been restrained from the time he left the Law Enforcement Center.The bottle contained 17 pills that were identified as Clonazepam, a controlled substance. The Deputy noted, “The pill container had been defaced as the label containing the narcotic information had been removed.”Clonazepam, better known by the brand name Klonopin, is a Schedule IV drug.In accordance with a plea agreement, Field pleaded Guilty to possession of a controlled substance and the remaining charges were dismissed. He was sentenced to two years of Intensive Supervised Probation.On December 31, 2020, a motion to revoke probation was filed.
