Fairbury Man Charged With Violating Protection Order
Curtiss Kahmar, 46, of Fairbury, appeared in Jefferson County Court via webcam from the Jefferson County Jail on Wednesday, September 15. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge.
There were no charges on file as of press time but he was arrested on Monday, September 13 for violating a protection order, a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
The defendant currently has another case pending in Jefferson County. Kahmar is charged with domestic assault involving an intimate partner, a class 1 misdemeanor that carries a possible penalty of one year in jail, and a $1,000 fine. He is also charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (DUI), first offense, a class W misdemeanor punishable by seven to 60 days in jail, a $500 fine and a driver’s license revocation of six months.
On July 23 of this year, at approximately 10:21 p.m., Jefferson County Deputies were dispatched to a residence in Fairbury in response to a report of a domestic assault.
According to the Arrest Affidavit, en route to the scene, deputies witnessed “a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.”
Deputies stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Kahmar. According to the Affidavit, Kahmar denied the assault.
A field sobriety test was conducted. The Affidavit states impairment was observed. Then a preliminary breath test was conducted and the Affidavit indicated a result of .147. Kahmar was then arrested.
Kahmar has pleaded Not Guilty in that case and his attorney, Dustin Garrison, made a demand for a jury trial. Another hearing is scheduled for September 29.
The defendant was free on a $10,000 (10 percent) bond at the time of his latest arrest. An additional bond was set for $5,000 (10 percent).
