Gage County Attorney Faces Recall

By Gordon HopkinsA petition to recall Gage County Attorney Roger Harris was filed on Friday, March 13, 2024, by Wymore resident Kerri Barnard Jones.In an email to FJN, Jones said, “Roger Harris has failed Gage County over and over again. He has made Gage County the ‘laughing stock’ of Nebraska. Roger Harris should be recalled for professional negligence by breaching duties of the oath he swore to uphold. He does not represent the voice of his constituents.”Jones cited two examples. First, she noted Harris dropped charges of animal abuse against a veterinarian, Dr. Jennafer Glaesemann, who has been accused of neglecting horses at her veterinary clinics in Beatrice and Pickrell.However, Harris said he doubted he could prove a case against Dr. Glaesemann beyond a reasonable doubt.He also noted in a press release, “Another major obstacle to resolving this matter was the misinformation and inappropriate attempts of certain individuals to influence the decision-making process of the prosecutor’s office and the full investigation of this case. The objective of protecting the horses has been accomplished and everyone will be given the opportunity to provide new homes for them through the auction.”Another issue cited by Jones is the matter of Brooke Koch, the victim of what law enforcement described as a murder-suicide. Koch, age 40, was killed on April 6, 2021. According to Gage County law enforcement, she was killed by her estranged partner, Jason Arnold, age 49, who then killed himself.FJN reached out to Harris for his reaction.As of press time, no response was received.
