Jeffs Playing Solid

The Fairbury Lady Jeffs entered the first week of February in the SNC Conference tournament taking on Sandy Creek in the first round on January 31. A night with some solid passing for open shots and a stifling defense that held their opponents to a 16 percent shooting percentage from the field, the Lady Jeffs’ first round was a success with the final score of 54-31. Leading the offense came from the Jami Mans with 14 points, while grabbing a team leading eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Hannah Robertson had a lucky number 13 points, with three assists and three rebounds. Karly McCord came away with nine points, six rebounds and did a stellar job protecting the rim with five blocks on the night. The following night Fairbury would take on number two seed in the tournament, David City. The Lady Jeffs carried the momentum from Monday night into Tuesday with a 47-28 victory. A great all-around effort from Fairbury helped them with that win as Jami Mans led the team with 16 points, and Hannah Robertson coming away with 13 points.A big factor came from the rebounding effort as Karly McCord and Casidy Sipek didn’t manage to score in the double digits, but each were in the double digits for rebounds with a dozen from the two of them contributing to the team’s 38 total. Pushing a win streak to four games the Lady Jeffs looked to take on Superior on Thursday, February 3. Despite being able to push that game to overtime, but unable to muster enough offense to get the win late as Fairbury would lose 38-43 to Superior. Fairbury was taking on Sutton at Centennial on Saturday, February 5. It was a slow second half start that was the downfall for the Lady Jeffs losing to 27-39.Boys ActionFor Saturday, February 5 the Fairbury Jeffs lost to Wilber-Clatonia 41-42.Zane Grizzle led the offense with 13 points, had two rebounds, one assist, and two steals. Jax Biehl was the only other Jeff to score in double digits with 10 points and grabbing two rebounds.This week Fairbury will take to the road on Friday, February 11 to go against Schuyler.
