Jeffs Put On Show At Recent Invites

Colder weather tried to slow down the athletes but as they dug down deep and persevered, many top placements and even records were broken on a filled week of competition.The Fairbury Lady Jeffs track team continues to march on as they ran away with first place scoring 180 points as a team at the Thayer Central Coaches Legacy meet on March 21.With the weather bringing a cold front and wind on top of that, it wasn’t ideal conditions but Fairbury came away with multiple top finishes. Top performances in the field events for Fairbury came by the way of Allison Davis taking first in the high jump at 4’10”, Regan Kapke took first in the triple jump with the distance 30’ 9.5” and Emily Huss taking first in the discus with a throw of 88’ 7”.The running events were filled with just as much dominance as Fairbury would take top placements in many races with the 4x800 meter relay consisting of Izzy Ohlde, Mikya Lierman, Madison Ohlde and Lily Davis running 12:16.91. Davis would also go on to win the 3200 meter run with the time 14:10.12. Huss would also collect another gold as she took first in the 100 meter hurdles running :17.50.In the 400 meter dash three Fairbury Lady Jeffs placed in the top three but Sam Starr was first running 1:05.28. Later in the 800 meter run Micah Friesen would find herself taking first this time as she ran a time of 2:39.44. No rest for the weary as they had to prepare themselves for the Fairbury home invitational on Saturday. The top performances from that day came by the efforts of Mikya Lierman taking first in the pole vault reaching the height of 10’ as the Fairbury Lady Jeffs were able to score 60 points and place fourth at the home invite. For the Fairbury Jeffs boys track team at the Coaches Legacy Meet the Jeffs finished runner-up scoring 126 points while they had top performances by senior Jax Biehl jumping to first in the high jump with the height of 5’6” and Devon Carel taking first in the 400 meter dash running :52.19.The boys placed ninth at the Fairbury invite on Saturday scoring 15 points.Fairbury’s next day of track and field will be Thursday, March 30 at Thayer Central starting at 10:30 a.m.
