Paul A. Huss

Paul A. Huss, 65, of Fairbury, passed away on April 11, 2026, at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln. Cremation has been chosen and a Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 P.M., on Saturday, April 25, at the Fairbury VFW Post #3113. To best celebrate Paul, the family requests for everyone to dress in casual wear with their favorite racing shirt and/or flannel. Online Condolences may be left for the family at www.gerdesmeyerfh.com.

Paul was born in San Diego, California, on a navy base, on May 23, 1960, to Les and Shirley Huss. He was the younger of 2 boys. At the age of 11, the family moved to Nebraska where Paul remained. He graduated from Fairbury High School in 1978.

After high school Paul instantly went into mechanic work working at various shops. He found a home at Alan’s Automotive and worked with Alan Bush, on and off for 30 years. When Les passed on May 3, 1993, Paul took over his mail route until the day of his passing.

Mechanic work became prominent in Paul’s life from a very early age, beginning with building a dune buggy with his neighbor at the age of 9. His love of turning wrenches never waivered, and he continued until the very end. He began drag racing at the age of 19 and later moved to dirt track racing at 31. He drove until the age of 52 driving multiple cars at race tracks all around the Midwest. His kind heart and willingness to help anyone at the track is most remembered by all who met him. Many drivers knew of Paul’s extensive knowledge of motors and carburetors and enjoyed learning through him.

In 1995 Paul’s son, Taylor, was born. They spent many hours in various shops with Paul passing down his love and knowledge. Though his love of racing himself was great, his true love was being Taylor’s crew chief and mechanic. His favorite nights included nights in the shop with Taylor and the crew, and Taylor’s biggest successes were his greatest racing memories.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Les and Shirley Huss.

Paul is survived by his son Taylor (Kayla); daughter Ashley; granddaughter Hensley of Fairbury; grandson Christian of Lincoln; brother Kevin Huss (nephews Zach and Quintin) of Lincoln; he is also survived by many extended family members, along with friends from his racing career who became family.
