Punching A Ticket To Omaha For State Wrestling

Fairbury:The Fairbury Jeffs will send three boys and one girl off to state in 2024. For the Fairbury girls wrestling team it’s now four straight years of having a wrestler qualify for state, this year it comes by way of Addison Marschman taking third in the 235-pound division going 3-1 on Feb. 9. For the boys, Riley Arner makes it three years in a row as he qualified for state in the 165-pound division taking third as he finished the day 4-1. Dalton VanLaningham was able to become a two-time state qualifier taking fourth in the 138-pound division going 2-2 on the day while Konrad Kuzelka punched his ticket to state as he placed fourth in the 157-pound division going 2-3. Southern:The Southern Raiders send a lone Raider as Wyatt Forney punched his ticket to state for the first time as he took third in the 106-pound division going 3-1 on the day. Meridian:The Meridian Mustangs able to send four off to state wrestling. Carter Haverluck was able to place second in the 126-pound division to qualify for state his first time as he finished his day 3-1. Jackson Huls went 4-1 in the 138-pound division as he was able to place third punching his ticket to state wrestling for the third consecutive time. JD Adam in the 157-pound division would go 4-0 to take first as he punched his ticket for the second time on his way to state. Adam in the previous year would place third and looks for the same success the second go around. Though missing his freshman season due to a shoulder injury, Kyan Sones has been making the most of his sophomore campaign. In the midst of setting the new school record pins in a season early in the year, Sones came into districts leading the state of Nebraska among all classes with pins and was able to add more to his record as he punched his ticket to state for the first time taking second in the 285-pound division going 3-1. Thayer Central:The Thayer Central Titans send the trio consisting of Dylan Williams, Cole Vorderstrasse, and James Bonar off to state. Dylan Williams in the 175-pound division was able to place second going 3-1 on the day to qualify for the state meet. Cole Vorderstrasse punched his second consecutive year to State in the 215-pound division as he took first going 4-0. While James Bonar had an uphill battle after losing the in first round, he bounced back to win three straight taking third and punching his ticket to state for the first time in the 285-pound division. Tri County:The Tri County Trojans send the quartet of Henry Holtmeier, Cole Spahr, Cooper Stokebrand and Cael Washburn off to State. In the 120-pound division Henry Holtmeier was able to take fourth going 4-2 as he qualified for state for his first time. Cole Spahr qualified for the second year in a row, this time 126-pound division taking fourth as he finished the day going 3-2. Cooper Stokebrand would become a two-time district champion as he went 3-0 in the 190-pound division and Cael Washburn makes it two-years in a row as he took third in the 215-pound division going 4-1. SEE NEXT PAGE Wilber-Clatonia:The Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines have a dominate showing at Districts as six wolverines punch their ticket to State, four of which claimed the right to be called District champions. Staying undefeated still and going on two-years as a State qualifier and District champion, this time in the 115-pound division was Zaiyahn Ornelas going 3-0. Punching his ticket to State now provides Orenlas the opportunity to win back-to-back State championships as he was the Class C 106-pound champion the previous year breaking the nine year dry spell for Wilber-Clatonia. Grant Eschiti was able to take first in the 120-pound division going 4-0 as he qualified for State the second year in a row as well. Iverson Mejia just a little over a month ago surpassed the 100th career win mark and made it three years in a row to qualify for State he took first in the 138-pound division going 4-0 as well. Jordan Marsh also surpassed the 100th career milestone just a month ago as well as he punched his ticket to State for the first time as he went 4-0 in the 150-pound division taking first. In the 165-pound division Lane Vesely was able to qualify for State his first time as he would go 3-2 taking fourth and making it two years in a row to qualify for State in the 285-pound division was Kieth Kvasnicka as he finished second going 3-1.
