T.C. Wins District Title, Bows Out At State

It was a roller-coaster ride, but despite being down four runs after the first inning, Tri County would come back to win by four runs to claim the Class C Area 4 Juniors Championship winning 8-4 against Wilber Tuesday, July 12.For Wilber that hot start in the game could be credited to a pair of singles by Nick Jacobson and Karsen Fisher along a groundout from Cole Radcliff helped take that lead. Jack Zimmerman was able to lead Wilber by going two for three at the plate, Owen Smith went one for two with a double as his one hit, and Caden Parham was able to contribute one hit going one for three. Carter Skelba started on the mound going two and a third inning allowing three hits, five runs, two strikeouts and two walks before being relieved by Owen Smith who pitched three and two-thirds inning allowing two hits, three runs, one walk and three strikeouts.For Tri County, a rough start that looked like a double header was in the future, weathered the storm and stayed the course, showing a great deal of poise throughout the game. Carter Siems exemplified that on the mound after having the rough first inning, would go the complete seven innings allowing four runs on six hits while striking out four with three walks. It was Tayden Gronemeyer who led Tri County by going three for four at the plate while bringing in three RBI as well.Dusty Kapke also managed to get multiple hits going two for three while bringing in two RBI for the team. Carter Siems, Caden Bales and Pierce Damrow each contributed one hit the team’s eight as well.Making 16 straight victories for Tri County carried a lot of momentum heading into Junior Legion State at Creighton, Neb.The 16-game streak ended Saturday as Tri County was unable to find the bats over the weekend of state as they lost to Imperial 3-11.Caden Bales started on the mound going two innings, allowing seven runs on six hits, striking out two and walking one.Tri County was able to collect seven hits, Cael Washburn and Caden Bales each led the team going two for two at the plate. With a weather delay, Sunday’s games were pushed to Monday as Tri County would be taking on P.W.G. for an elimination round.It was an even battle late into the game until it was P.W.G. bringing across four runs in the top of the fifth to secure the eventual win 6-4.Tri County was able to get six hits as a team with Braiden Strouf leading the offense going two-for-three at the plate.Dusty Kapke, Carter Siems, Cael Washburn, and Tayden Gronemeyer each collected one hit as well.Carter Siems was on the mound going five innings, surrendering six runs on seven hits with four walks and two strikeouts.Tri County Juniors though ending the season sooner than would be hoped for had finished with a 26-5 record on the season.
