Track Season Prepares For Districts, State Competitions

The last week of the regular season for track has wrapped up with many teams making up for a meet being postponed earlier in the season due to weather. In the second week of May district track will be getting underway with many athletes vying for the opportunity to compete at state track at Burke Stadium. Jeffs At Raymond CentralAnn-Katrin Mueller of the Fairbury Jeffs girls track squad continues to pull away from the competition as she and the rest of the Jeffs competed at Raymond Central on Thursday, May 2 to close out the regular season.The 4x800-meter relay was third as they ran the time of 11:38.05. Mueller was able to take first in the 3200-meter run with a time 12:09 and was able to grab third in the 1600-meter run as she finished with a time 5:36.43. Sam Starr took second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.24 followed by Micah Friesen taking sixth and Lily Davis with seventh. The 800-meter run had Starr taking third as she ran the time of 2:26.41, followed by Micah Friesen taking fourth with 2:31.35 and Lily Davis grabbed fifth running 2:32.91.For the girls in the field events Regan Kapke took fourth in triple jump (33’1”) and took fourth in the long jump (14’10”). Autumn L’Ecuyer was able to take second in shot put throwing a distance of 38’5.5”, and for pole vault Lily Davis took first reaching the height of 9’6”.For the Fairbury boys field events, top efforts came by Nic Smith taking fourth in triple jump (38’8.5”).For discus, Rene Monterroso grabbed fourth with a throw of 129’ and took sixth in shot put. Dalton VanLaningham was able to vault his way in fourth for pole vault reaching the height of 11’ while Hayden Bear took sixth.For the racing, Fairbury boys had Jerik Johnson take third place in the 3200-meter (11:06.85). Nic Smith took third in the 200-meter dash (:23.46), sixth in the 100-meter dash, and Gavin Gerths was able to place sixth in the 110-meter hurdles. Vorderstrasse, Lukert Lead TitansThe Thayer Central Titans competed at the Fillmore Central invite on Thursday, May 2 with the boys placing fourth and the girls would place sixth with 49 points.For the boys in the field events Cole Vorderstrasse took first in the discus with a distance of 152’8”, and managed third in shot put with a distance 47’5.5”.The duo of Bradley Neff and Gavin Kroll placed in the top five of the pole vault with Neff taking second at the height of 11’6” and Kroll took fourth. Neff would also take fourth in the triple jump (37’7.5”), and in the long jump Dylan Williams grabbed fifth place (17’.25”).The 4x800-meter relay was able to take third with a time of 9:25.55. Murphy Sudbeck in the 110-meter hurdles set a Personal Record (PR) time of :16.48 giving him third place. Adam Lukert was able to set a PR time in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:57.07 taking first place and in the 3200-meter run Lukert was able to take first in that event as well running a time 11:18.56. Colter Sinn grabbed fourth in the 400-meter dash as he clocked in a time of :55.67, in the 800-meter run Christian Krupicka grabbed fifth, and Cole Vorderstasse took third in the 100-meter dash with a time of :11.50.The top efforts from the girls came by Isabella Escitt taking fourth in the 100-meter dash with a PR time of :13.08 and in the 200-meter dash was able to set another PR time of :26.88 which was good for third. Coming in second place for the 800-meter run was Paige Tietjen as she clocked in a time of 2:39.92, and for the 100-meter hurdles Josey Welch took third as she finished with a time of :17.10. The 4x400-meter relay was able to run 4:30.47 for their time which got them third place and the 4x800-meter relay ran a time of 12:08.29, placing them at fourth. Braelyn Dengenhardt was able to take third in the triple jump (30’8”), and Meigha Schmidt took third in the high jump with 4’7”.Thayer Central will look to the Class C-7 District track meet hosted by Sandy Creek on Thursday, May 9.Weers, Relay Runners, McKinney Do Well For GriffinsThe Diller-Odell Griffins competed at the Freeman Invite on Tuesday, April 30 with the girls scoring a team total of 36 points placing them at eighth and the boys would score 21 points giving them 10th.For the D-O boys, top performances came by Callan McKinney taking first in both the long and triple jump. McKinney closed out the regular season with a new PR distance as he reached 20’8” in the long jump, and took first in triple jump with a distance of 41’4”.The girls 4x800-meter relay took first with a time of 10:38.59 and the 4x100-meter relay was able to take third running a time of :53.74. For Myleigh Weers, two gold medals coming by way of a PR time of 2:24.94 taking first in the 800-meter run and took first in the 400-meter run as she ran a time of 1:01.43.The Diller-Odell Griffins will be competing at the Class D-1 District at Pawnee City on Wednesday, May 8. Warford Wins High JumpThe Southern Raiders competed at the JCC Invite on Thursday, May 2.The girls would score a team total of 14 points giving them 10th and the boys would score 26 points giving them eighth. For the girls top efforts came by Jenna Forney setting a PR time in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of :17.75 which placed her at fifth and she would set a PR distance in the long jump with a jump of 14’10.5”. Isabella Hopper set a PR time in the 1600-meter run as she ran a time of 6:05.67.For the boys Cooper Warford was able to take first place in the high jump (5’8”), set a PR time in the 100-meter dash with a time of :11.50 giving him first in that as well, and was able to place fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a PR time of :44.77. Tony Pruneda managed to have a solid run during the 1600-meter clocking in the time of 5:03.98 which was able to place him at fifth. W-C Boys Win JCCPeaking at the right time is the Wilber-Clatonia Wolverine boys squad. They competed at the JCC Invite on Thursday, May 2 and ended the regular season taking the top spot with 93 points and the girls would score a team total of 36 points giving them sixth place.The W-C boys top efforts came by the likes of Carter Skleba taking gold in the long jump and triple jump as well as taking first in the 200-meter dash. For long jump Skleba would reach a distance of 20’10” and in triple jump reached 41’3” while for the 200-meter dash Carter set a PR time with a time of :23.69.In the pole vault Ryan Nicholson was able to take the top place as he reached a PR height of 11’6”. Tristan Pearce was able to join Skleba in the top five of the triple jump as Pearce took fourth reaching a distance of 37’8.5”. Jorge Vazquez was able to take fourth in both throwing events.In the relay events the 4x800 would place third running a time of 8:52.46, and the 4x400 relay would run the time of 3:43.42.Cash Keslar was able to take first place in the 400-meter dash running the time of :52.96, set a PR time in the 300-meter hurdles with :44, giving him third, and was able to take sixth in the 110-meter hurdles. Grant Eschiti was able to take second in the 800-meter run as he clocked in the time of 2:12.60.Top efforts for the girls came by Diamond Thompson taking first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.42. Jera Schuerman was able to set a PR distance in the discus event as she placed among the top three with third with a throw of 116’6”. The duo of Valerie Ninneman and Breanna Spilker were able to jump into the top five of the triple jump as both set new PR distances with Ninneman taking third as she jumped 32’10” and Spilker took fifth with 32’3.5”. Spilker would also take fifth in the long jump as well. The 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-relay were both able to place fifth.Wilber-Clatonia will be competing at the Class C-7 District track meet which will be hosted by Sandy Creek on Thursday, May 9. Peters Paces TrojansThe Tri County Trojans competed at the Freeman Invite last week coming away with top placements to close out the regular season. The Tri County girls were able to score a team total of 57 points giving them fourth and the boys scored 85.5 points giving them second place.The top efforts for the girls came by the duo of Ashlynn Brown and Catrina Washburn rounding out the top five of the triple jump as Brown would take third with 31’7” and Washburn would reach a distance of 31’.75” placing fifth. Kennadee VanWinkle was able to place second in the pole vault reaching the height of 9’. The 4x400-meter relay was able to clock in a time of 4:23.56 giving them third place.For the races, Abbie Drewes was able to place fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (:51.66) and set a PR time in the 110-meter hurdles (:17.22) giving her fifth. Ella Clark was able to grab third place in the 400-meter dash (1:03.65). Isabelle Peters was able to take first place in both her running events as she ran 5:51.47 in the 1600-meter run and in the 3200-meter run Peters clocked in the time of 12:36.85.The Tri County boys had a trio consisting of Tayden Gronemeyer, Garrett Smidt and John Wehrman fill out the top five in the triple jump with Gronemeyer taking third with 39’8.25”, Smidt set a PR distance with 39’2.5” giving him fourth place, and Wehrman placed fifth with 39’1.25”.Gronemeyer was able to set a PR height in the pole vault as he took first place with 12’6”. Keyton Reck was able to place fifth in the high jump and Pierce Damrow took sixth in the long jump. Cooper Stokebrand was able to place third for both throwing events setting a PR distance in the discus (147’9”) and for shot put would throw a distance of 47’2”).The 4x800-meter relay would take first with a time of 9:01.96 and in the 4x100-meter relay took third with a time of :45.78. Dusty Kapke was able to take second in both hurdle events as he would run :43.06 in the 300-meter hurdles and set a PR time of :15.76 in the 110-meter hurdles. Lucas Lewandowski was able to set a PR time in the 800-meter run (2:05.02) giving him second place. The duo of Pierce Damrow and Keyton Reck rounded out the top five of the 100-meter dash as Damrow set a PR time (:11.54) placing fourth and Reck would get fifth in the 100-meter dash.Tri County looks to Class C-7 District track at Sandy Creek on Thursday, May 9. Meridian At Russ Snyder InviteThe Meridian Mustangs competed at the Russ Snyder Invite on Thursday, May 2 to close out the regular season. The girls would place second as they scored 91 points and the boys came away with third as they scored a team total of 89 points.Showing his speed, Mario Escobar was first in the 100-meter dash (:12.11) and took second in the 200-meter dash (:25.36).Christian Guenther was able to set a PR time in the 400-meter dash (:56.56) giving him third place.The duo of Jackson Huls and Braiden Durflinger found themselves in the 800-meter run top five as Huls set a PR time with a time of 2:19.97 giving him third place followed Durflinger running 2:22.74 which was good for fourth place.Coby Huls was able to take third in the 3200-meter run (11:53.80) and Maddox Haake was able to place fifth in the 300-meter hurdles and second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of :19.09 while Domenic Suarez was able to place fourth in the 110-meter hurdles. The 4x800-meter relay placed third running 10:11.89, the 4x100-meter relay was able to place fourth with a time of :47.91, and the 4x400-meter relay was able to place fifth. For field events Kolton Kumpf was able to take first place in the shot put with a distance of 47’8” and was able to take third in the discus with 125’9”. Landon Peterson was able to place fourth in the triple jump (34’8”), and in the high jump Colby Smith was able to place fifth along with Peterson taking sixth.The girls field events had some great efforts as well McKenzie Hofstetter taking first in pole vault (8’6”).Hofstetter took first in the triple jump (30’9.25”) and in the long jump Tyleiah Gooding was able to place second (15’1.5”). Saege Barnell was able to place fifth in high jump. Jaylee Sobotka was able to place fifth in discus and set a PR distance in shot put (34’3.5”) giving her second place. The 4x800-meter relay clocked in a time of 11:01.86 and 4x400-meter relay clocked in the time 4:43.09 as they were both able to place second. The 4x100-meter relay was able to take first as they ran the time of :53.89.The hurdle events had Tyleiah Gooding taking second in the 100-meter hurdles and in the 300-meter hurdles Kendall Filipi was able to set a PR time of :50.76 which was good for second place. Jenna Woitalewicz was able to take fifth in the 3200-meter run. Saege Barnell was able to place fourth in the 100-meter dash and was joined by Braxtyn Rut as she took sixth.Meridian will be competing at the Class D-1 District track meet at Pawnee City on Wednesday, May 8.
