We, The People Give The Directions

The system works. Never forget, ladies and gentlemen, the election system of the United States, although not perfect, works.
Yes, things get through the cracks. There is the old tale I remember hearing when I was a kid about people long deceased showing up on voting tallies. Pets. Cartoon characters. They’ve all made it through the system at one time or another. However, the greatest nation on earth has the greatest election system on earth.
The voter identification initiative passed. This is proof that the people of this state passed an initiative by using their voice and voting.
I agree with Sen. Tom Brandt, that this may cost the state some funds in providing people with an ID that can’t afford one. There are a lot of details to be worked out, which is up to the men and women of our legislature to iron out. Again, proof that our government works, is that we have representatives we elect that take direction to lead the state. We, as a people, want ID’s for voters to tighten up elections. We, as a people, elect senators to work out the details to make that happen.
There are nations out there where the people have no voice. They do not get to vote for anyone or anything. They are told what religion they are, they are told what job they will have, they are told the life they will lead.
Congrats to all of those candidates who ran this election cycle, be it as an incumbent or new to the game. It is never easy putting yourself out there, hitting the streets, meeting people and trying to garner votes. It is equally hard to put your own needs aside to get to the meat of the matter and try to make the world a better place through their candidacy.
Tackling issues and trying to solve problems makes this nation unique and I appreciate all of the candidates that tried to make this world better than the day before.
I reiterate, this is America, the greatest nation ever conceived.
