Daykin Man Charged with Domestic Assault

On Wednesday, June 15, 2022, 50-year-old Daykin resident Christopher Drees appeared in Jefferson County Court via webcam. Judge Linda Bauer presided.Drees has been charged with one count of third-degree domestic assault. Because he has a prior conviction this is a class 3A felony which carries up to three years in prison and 18-month post-release supervision and/or up to a $10,000 fine.Drees has also been charged with attempted assault of an officer which is a class 3 felony which carries with it up to two years in prison and 12-month post-release supervision and/or up to a $10,000 fine.Drees has also been charged with resisting arrest, a class 1 misdemeanor which carries with it a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.The alleged incident occurred on May 2, 2022, at approximately 3 a.m.Officers received a call from the alleged victim claiming Drees was being violent with her and that she had a knife.Officers arrived on the scene and found the alleged victim with a small laceration on the left side of her face. She alleged that she told Drees she was leaving which began the alleged incident of abuse.The alleged victim managed to get out of the house and after talking to the deputies on scene she made them aware that Drees and another female were still in the house.When Deputies approached the house and tried to speak with Drees, he allegedly became violent with the deputies allegedly getting in their faces and swearing at them. Drees also allegedly attempted to extinguish a lit cigarette on one deputy’s face.When the deputies placed him under arrest, Dress allegedly tried to pull away resulting in the deputies assisting him to the ground. He was then handcuffed without further incident.The second woman in the house spoke to the deputies and affirmed everything the alleged victim had claimed.Drees was then transported to Jefferson County Jail without further incident.Because Drees is charged with a felony, he will be tried in the district court rather than county court.According to Drees, he is currently trying to hire an attorney.His bond was revoked in May because he violated conditions of his bond when he was arrested twice in Gage County while out on bond.Due to the nature and circumstances of the alleged crime, his bond has been reset at $200,000, 10 percent.Drees is scheduled to appear in court on July 13 for Election of Preliminary Hearing and Bond Forfeiture.Criminal HistoryThe defendant has a prior criminal record.Drees has a DUI conviction in 2013.Drees was previously convicted of domestic assault, along with possession of dextroamphetamine, on June 13, 2019.On July 14, 2021, Drees was convicted of domestic assault in Jefferson County.He was originally charged with obstructing a peace officer and third-degree domestic assault. In accordance with a plea agreement, the obstruction charge was dismissed and Drees pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of domestic assault.
