Getting Ready For State Wrestling

The numbers for participation in girls wrestling continues to grow and with that tournaments are added. The year of 2024 will be the first year with girl’s sub-districts wrestling and Crete hosted the 3A sub-districts on Saturday, Feb. 3 covering Meridian, Fairbury, Wilber-Clatonia and Thayer Central girls wrestling. Jeffs Qualify OneFor the Fairbury Lady Jeffs, the lone qualifier for Districts on Saturday, February 3rd was Addison Marschman as she placed fourth in the 235-pound division. Regan Kapke was just shy of qualifying as her day ended with a 3-2 record in the 115-pound division.Reese Stone, Mailee Garner, and Rylee Gill each were able to go 2-2 on the day as well.Degenhardt Qualifies For StateThe Thayer Central Lady Titans had some solid outings, but one qualifier coming from the efforts of Braelyn Degenhardt taking fourth in the 130-pound division as she finished 3-1. W-C Travels To CreteThe Wilber-Clatonia Lady Wolverines were unable to have any qualifiers, Diamond Thompson went 1-2 in the 100-pound division, and Faith Klabenes went 2-2 in the 235-pound division.Buresh Represents MustangsThe Meridian Lady Mustangs were stung by the injury bug and only had one Hailee Buresh representing them on Saturday, Feb. 3 but was unable to qualify for districts in her first year of competition. Boys Wrestling Action Wolverines At State Dual ChampionshipsThe Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines would bow out to the first round of the state dual championship as they lost to St. Paul with the final score reaching 30-44 on Saturday, Feb. 3.W-C gears up to hit the road for districts as they head to Boone Central on Friday, Feb. 9. Mustangs At CRC InviteThe Meridian Mustangs placed sixth at the CRC Invite on Thursday, Feb. 1 as the team scores a total of 74 points.The top efforts came from the trio of Kyan Sones, Jackson Huls and JD Adam each taking first in their division. Sones would go 3-0, Adam 6-0, and Huls 6-0 as well.Carter Haverluck placed fourth and Coby Huls grabbed fifth.Meridian will be hitting the road and on the way to Pleasanton on D-3 Districts Friday, Feb. 9. Raiders Led By Weiner, IdeusThe Southern Raiders placed eighth at the CRC Invite on Thursday, Feb. 1 as the team scored a total of 36 points.Top efforts came from Bladen Weiner and Kolten Ideus as each took third in their division. Noah Troxel was able to place fourth, Carsen Goes managed fifth, while Jacob Ward and Kyen Troxel each placed sixth in their division.Southern prepares to hit the road and will be on the way to Pleasanton for the D-3 Districts on Friday, Feb. 9. Trojans At NorrisThe Tri County Trojans placed sixth at the Norris Invite on Friday, Feb. 2 as the team scores a total of 88 points.Top efforts from that invite came by way of Cole Spahr taking first in the 126-pound division staying undefeated on the season.Cooper Stokebrand and Cael Washburn each took second in their division while Toby Ambrose was able to place fourth.Tri County hits the road as they will be at Thayer Central for Districts on Friday, Feb. 9.Titans At FairburyThe Thayer Central Titans placed seventh at the Fairbury Invite on Friday, Feb. 2 as the score a team total of 126 points.Top efforts came by Cole Voderstrasse and Colter Sinn each placed first in the their division while Dylan Williams was able to place third in his division.Thayer Central will be hosting the C-1 Districts on Friday, Feb. 9. Jeffs Host Own InviteThe Fairbury Jeffs were able to place among the top three at their home invite on Friday, Feb. 2 as the team scored a total of 180 points.Top efforts from Fairbury came by way of Riley Arner and Konrad Kuzelka as each were able to take first in their division along with Dalton VanLaningham taking third in his division.Fairbury will be at Aurora for the C-2 Districts on Friday, Feb. 9.
