GirlsTitans Clamp Down on W-C For WinThe Thayer Central Lady Titans stood tall at home with stifling defense, winning 44-15, against Wilber-Clatonia on Dec. 19.The Titans were led by Piper Havel as she ended the night with a double-double having 12 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. While Jadyn Bowman was able to score 11 points, have seven rebounds, six assists, one steal and one block.Thayer Central will begin their Christmas break and be back on the court Thursday, Dec. 28 hosting Lourdes Central Catholic. Griffins Defeat JeffsThe Lady Jeffs lost to Diller-Odell 31-46 on Dec. 19.The Griffins were up 14-2 after one period but the Jeffs made it interesting in the second quarter, scoring 12 points to D-O’s 13. It was 27-14 at the half. Down the stretch Diller-Odell was able to maintain a lead, outscoring Fairbury 8-6 in the third period and both teams scored 11 points in the fourth quarter.Leading Diller-Myleigh Weers with 27 points. Ashley Duis and Kenzie Strein each had six points for the Griffins.Evelyn Timmons led FHS with nine points, and Micah Friesen had six points.Timmons, Friesen, Deja Vocelka and Izzy Ohlde each had seven rebounds. Having a monster night on defense was Timmons with six blocks in the game.Fairbury bounced back winning the firs round of the Runza Holiday Classic on the road as they defeated Bruning-Davenport/Shickley with a final score of 37-34.Sacred Heart Skips Past TrojansThe Tri County Lady Trojans ran into late offensive struggles as they lost 31-38 at home against Sacred Heart on Dec. 19.Then on Dec. 21 Tri County would be able to win 33-21 at home against Pawnee City.Tri County will host their holiday tournament on Friday, December 29th.Mustangs Crush HamptonThe Meridian Lady Mustangs defense paved the way to victory winning 56-23 against Hampton on Dec. 19.Meridian was able to rack a team total of 24 steals. Ana Dimas led the team with 15 points scored and was able to nearly have a double-double with a career high nine steals, with five assists, four rebounds and one block. Jaala Stewart was able to score 14 points, had five steals, five assists, and four rebounds. Jaylee Sobotka nearly had a double-double for herself as well scoring 11 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and had two steals.Meridian would be back home hosting Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer on Dec. 21 with the final score reaching 45-29.Top performances in that game came by Dimas scoring 11 points, having four rebounds, four assist and four steals. Along with McKenzie Hofstetter nearly having a double-double scoring 10 points, grabbing eight rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks.Meridian will be back on the road starting the new year as they go against McCool Junction on Thursday, Jan. 4.BoysWolverines Snag Win Over TitansThe Thayer Central Titans came up just short, losing 44-47, at home to Wilber-Clatonia on Dec. 19.The Titans were led by the duo of Sam Souerdyke and Will Heitmann. Souerdyke was able to score 21 points, grab three rebounds, one steal, one block and had three assists. Heitmann scored 15 points, had four rebounds, and one steal.Thayer Central will be back on the court looking for a win on Thursday, Dec. 28 hosting Lourdes Central Catholic.Jeffs Pick Up Win Over GriffinsThe Fairbury Jeffs were able to grab a win on the road against Diller-Odell on Dec. 19 with a final score of 40-29. Fairbury was able to pick apart the zone of their opponents with the trio consisting of Blake Starr, Brodie Prellwitz and Drew Watson leading the charge.Starr was nearly able to have a double-double scoring 11 points, had nine rebounds, three blocks, one steal and two assists. Prellwitz had 11 points, two rebounds, two steals and two assists, while Watson scored 10 points, had three rebounds, one block, and two assists.Fairbury would then hold on to the victory in a close game of 33-32 against Bruning-Davenport/Shickley on Thursday, Dec. 21 in the Runza Holiday Classic tournament.Trojans Have Big Win Over Sacred HeartThe Tri County Trojans able to run away with the win 63-26 against Sacred Hearts on Dec. 19.The top performances from Tri County came by Caden Bales having a double-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and one steal. Drew Siems was able to have 14 points, grab six rebounds, have a team leading five assists and three steals. Tayden Gronemeyer scored 10 points, managed three rebounds, one assist and two steals.Tri County will host their holiday tournament on Friday, Dec. 29.Mustangs Lose HeartbreakerThe Meridian Mustangs come up just short losing on the road to Hampton with a final score of 39-40 on Dec. 19. Then Meridian would have a slow start that ended in defeat 40-47 against Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer.Meridian will be back on the road starting the new year as they go against McCool Junction on Jan. 4.
