Meridian Headed To State Volleyball

State Bound Once AgainThe Meridian Lady Mustangs make it two years in a row as they punched their ticket to state with a sweeping victory against Wausa on Saturday, October 28.The Mustangs would dominate in the first set winning 25-13, held on for the second set victory 25-20, and punched their ticket with another emphatic 25-13 third set win. Making a big impact on sides of the game was Jaala Stewart as she led the offense with a lucky 13 kills, gave out one assist, and served one ace; while on defense Stewart led the team with 21 digs.Facilitating the offense was Kaira Niederklein as she would end the game with 28 assists, along with three kills, two aces and had 11 digs. Of Meridian’s nine aces served, four of them were served by Jaylee Sobotka. Sobtoka also finished with eight kills, and had 11 digs.Paying big dividends in a bit of everything was the duo of McKenzie Hofstetter and Braxtyn Rut as they were a force up front on defense as Hofstetter led the team with six blocks and Rut finished with two blocks. Hofstetter had five kills and Rut would have three kills while each had one ace served and Hofstetter was able to get five digs and Rut finished with 11.With the victory in the Class D2-3 District final, Meridian rides a four-game win streak, each of which were done by a sweep. Meridian’s first round opponent for State will be at 11:00 a.m. on the south court against number six seed Stuart on Thursday, November 2.Great Effort By GriffinsThe Diller-Odell lady Griffins unable to slow down Amherst as they lose 1-3 in the Class D1- District final on Saturday, October 28.D-O would win the first set 25-23, but lose three straight sets as they would go 20-25, 18-25, and 12-25. With the loss, it brings an end to D-O five year streak of competing at the state tournament and their record for the year stands at (19-12).Titans Edged In Tough BattleThe Thayer Central lady Titans battle to five sets, but lose 2-3 against Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family on Saturday. With the loss Thayer Central brings their season to a close as they sport a winning record of (27-4), were SNC Conference Champions, and Class C2-8 Sub-District champions.
