MUDECAS Halted By Weather

The battle with mother nature finally ceased. After completing the first two rounds of MUDECAS basketball for the boys and girls, winter had won out and this is the first year that both boys and girls champions will not be crowned. MUDECAS boys tournament began in 1930 and the girls tournament started in 1984.Champions have been crowned every year until 2019 when snowy weather forced the cancellation of the boys championships.The following results are from the first round stats that have been posted by time of press release.Girls:Griffins Lose By One PointThe Diller-Odell Lady Griffins lost a close contest with the final score reaching 48-49 against Palmyra in the first round of MUDECAS on Jan. 10.D-O was led by Myleigh Weers scoring 24 points, gave out five assists, had two steals and one block.Ashley Duis contributed seven points, one rebound and two steals while Baileigh Vilda led the team with 11 rebounds, had four steals, one assist and scored six points.D-O will be back home on Thursday hosting Lawrence-Nelson.Niederklein Leads MustangsThe Meridian Lady Mustangs ran into offensive woes in the second half losing 30-43 against Freeman in the first round of MUDECAS on Jan. 10.Top performances for Meridian was Kaira Niederklein scoring a dozen points, grabbing four rebounds and giving out one assist.The duo of Jaala Stewart and Ana Dimas each scored seven points.Stewart was able to have four rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block. Dimas had three rebounds and three steals.Meridian will be on the road against East Butler on Thursday.Offense Can’t Get Going For SouthernThe Southern Lady Raiders lost 11-60 against Exeter-Milligan/Friend in the first round of MUDECAS on Jan. 10.Southern will be hitting the road on Friday going against Sterling.Johnson-Brock Gets Win Over TrojansThe Tri County Lady Trojans can’t contain Johnson-Brock with the final score reaching 25-60 in the first round of MUDECAS on Jan. 10.Tri County will be hosting Fillmore Central on Friday. Boys:Trojans Cruise To WinThe Tri County Trojans defense created easy offense as Tri County came away with the victory as the final score reached 43-24 against Exeter-Milligan/Friend in the first round of MUDECAS on Jan. 11.Top efforts came by Caden Bales leading the offensive charge with 14 points, gave out three assist and having one steal.Drew Siems managed eight points, had four rebounds, two assist, one block and three steals. Dusty Kapke and Braiden Strouf each had seven points.Kapke would also grab three rebounds and one block while Strouf had two rebounds, three assist, and one steal.Tri County will be hosting Fillmore Central on Friday.Raiders Down LewistonThe Southern Raiders were able to execute on all cylinders as they won, 62-47, against Lewiston on Jan. 11.Southern will be on the road on Friday going against Sterling.Griffins Face Johnson-Brock In MUDECASThe Diller-Odell Griffins could not get the offense on track as they lost 34-72 against Johnson-Brock in the first round of MUDECAS on Jan. 11.Top performances for D-O came by the duo of Cooper Morgan and Tj Vitosh.Morgan was nearly able to have another double-double finishing with 12 points, nine rebounds, one steal and one assist.Vitosh scored 11 points, grabbed three rebounds, and had one block.The Griffins will be back home on Thursday hosting Lawrence-Nelson.
