Souerdyke and Weers Reach 1,000 Point Career Milestone

The defense of the Diller-Odell Lady Griffins came alive in the first week, allowing the team to go 2-0 to start the season, winning 63-22 against Pawnee City and 71-45 against Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer.As D-O would host Pawnee City on Nov. 30, the Griffins would see a large milestone passed as D-O was led by Myleigh Weers scoring 19 points, and in doing so, passed the 1,000 career point mark. When asked about the achievement Weers said, “I’m fortunate to get to this point in my career. I’ve put in a lot of work to do it. Its a huge thanks to my teammates I got this far, they put their trust in me and helped create a lot of opportunities to make a play.”When asked about the possibility of 2,000 career points, Weers, a junior, was eager to take the challenge, “Oh, I believe I can do that. I’m going to get better as the season moves on and I’ve got a lot work ahead that I look forward too.” Overall from the victory, and the milestone confidence seemed to be the key as Weers would say, “I think that from the win, aside from our defense, it’s confidence. We’re a lot more confident team this year and everyone’s ready to take their shot when they get them. I think as they season goes, we’ll be a tough team because everyone’s willing and confident in what we’re doing.”The sentiment rang true as on the next night Dec. 1, a resounding 71-45 victory on the road against Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer. Leading the charge in that game was Weers scoring 31 points. Weers would also have five steals, one block, five assists and two rebounds. Reaching double digits as well was Baileigh Vilda scoring a dozen points, while grabbing eight rebounds, one block and one assist. Jaedyn Hajek scored 10 points, and had two rebounds, one assist and two steals. Souerdyke Garners 1,000th PointThe Thayer Central Titans were unable to slow down Hanover losing 63-75 on Dec. 1, but Sam Souerdyke did all he could, scoring-wise, to keep the Titans in the game.Despite the loss, Thayer Central did have a milestone passed in a career high scoring effort. Leading the team for scoring was Sam Souerdyke as he would finish with a career high of 36 points and in doing so surpassed the 1,000 career point milestone.Souerdyke nearly had a double double as he managed nine rebounds, had three assists, one block with four steals. Will Heitmann also managed to score in the double digits with 15 points and had one rebound.
