Thanks To All

There is a long list of thank yous for putting the Founders Day celebration on this year: Fairbury Public Schools was a tremendous help with Mrs. Smith and Mr. Molloy helping with just about all aspects of the day. The FHS cheerleaders spread Jeff Pride by helping run the bounce houses for the kids. FPS helped with the tables and chairs for the event. Others that helped included city crews that helped with dumpsters and getting electricity where we needed it. Matt McCord, Roger Pollman, Luke Hackett, Gary McGinty and Jeff Helgot helped provide stages for the dance. Mother Tung, themselves, helped with the staging area, selling tickets and filling everyone they met with a sense of pride for this community. Sam Riggins of Cosmic Eye took a lot of joy coming to his hometown to display his newest creation, a beer inspired by Fairbury. My wife works a lot, is involved with a lot and has to live with me daily and took on coordinating the vendors and bounce houses at the celebration. Joe Casson helped with his expertise and his two hands and back to set up the beer garden. Any others I missed, my apologies. A lot of people from all aspects of the community pulled together to showcase this community and I, along with the entire Fairbury Community Foundation, appreciate it. There is the most important thank you of all to hand out and that is to Don Cook. Truly, without Don, there would be no Founders Day celebration, nor backpack program for the school, or help with the K9 unit, nor any of the other projects the Fairbury Community Foundation holds annually. Saturday at 6 a.m., Don pulled up with cattle gates to set up the street dance area. At 4 p.m., exhausted, drenched in sweat, Don said, “I hope there is a good turnout, this town needs this.” By 3 a.m. we left. Don did not grow up in Fairbury. However, he came to the community of Reynolds and Fairbury and has made a major impact. He does it because it needs to be done. This town needs a celebration to show itself off to the world. Kids that are in a bad financial situation need school supplies. He has helped people down on their luck get back on their feet. He has helped children without voices in the court system get representation. I have personally seen him bleed, sweat and sacrifice all he has for this community.
