Warrant Issued for Dalton Meyer

A bench warrant was issued for the arrest of Dalton J. Meyer, age 24, of Fairbury, after he failed to appear in Jefferson County Court. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge.Meyer was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. He is charged with theft with a value of less than $500, a class 2 misdemeanor punishable by six months in jail and a $500 fine. In addition, he could be required to pay restitution.The defendant had signed a citation promising to appear on November 2.Bond was set at $1,500 (10 percent).A previous warrant was issued for Meyer on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, after he failed to appear for court on that date as well.In that case, Meyer is charged with driving during a time that his driver's license was revoked, a class 2 misdemeanor, and speeding 11 to 15 miles per hour over the posted speed limit, an infraction.Meyer has a prior conviction for driving under a revoked license.Judge Bauer issued a warrant and set bond at $2,500 (10 percent).This is not Meyer's first brush with the law.Meyer, was sentenced to one year in jail in Jefferson County on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. Bauer was the presiding judge in that case.The defendant was originally charged with terroristic threats, a class 3A felony punishable by up to three years in prison, nine to 18 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine; and third-degree assault, a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.In accordance with a plea agreement, Meyer pleaded No Contest to the assault charge and the felony charge was dismissed. County Attorney Joseph Casson agreed to stand silent at sentencing.Meyer was also charged in Gage County in 2020 with operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest and theft by receiving stolen property, both class 4 felonies, and driving under revocation, a class 2 misdemeanor. In accordance with a plea agreement, the charge of flight to avoid arrest was dismissed and Meyer pleaded guilty to the remaining charges. He was sentenced to probation. His probation in Gage County was later revoked. Gage County District Court Judge Rick A. Schreiner sentenced Meyer to two years in the Nebraska Department of Corrections, with credit for 74 days time served.
